Welcome to 3rd grade!
I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I grew up in Huntsville, Alabama and received my B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. I moved to Savannah after graduation and taught in the Chatham County public schools for eight years. While teaching, I earned my M. Ed. degree from Armstrong in Early Elementary Education. I also met my husband, Michael, here in Savannah. His job with Great Dane Trailers transferred us to the Kansas City area. We enjoyed living there for 15 years, and during that time I worked part-time as the Christian Education Director at our church. In 2004, Great Dane moved us back to Savannah. Our son, David, graduated from SCPS in 2008 and graduated from Mercer University in 2012. Rebecca, our daughter, graduated last year and starts her freshman year at UGA this fall. This is my 10th year at SCPS. I am very blessed to be teaching at Savannah Christian Lower School and working with your child this year. I’d like to briefly review a few key points as we begin the new school year.
Communication is very important to me, so feel free to contact me if you are confused about something. I will do my best to help. There are 2 ways that I find are most effective for daily communication. They are: 1) a written note from you in the planner or on a piece of paper or 2) an email. The written note is best if you want to make sure I see the note first thing in the morning. Email is a bit trickier. Mornings are hectic, and there are days that I am not able to check my email until later in the day. I will do my best to get back to you in 24 hours.
Carpool/Arrival and dismissal: Arrival is between 7:50 and 8:20. After 8:25, you will need to check your child in at the office to receive a tardy slip. In the morning, please drop your child off only in the assigned drop-off locations after 7:50. Please do NOT drop-off your child without staff member on duty at that location. Dismissal is at 2:45. If your child’s dismissal plans change from the routine, such as going home with a classmate for a play date or riding the bus instead of aftercare, I need to have a written note from you with instructions. An email or note in the homework folder is perfect. Please remember, no cell phones while driving on campus.
Your child will bring home a HOMEWORK BINDER and a planner. I usually post the upcoming tests on my website, but your child's planner should have the most up-to-date information since plans may change. Please read the homework policy under the "more" tab on the home page. On Tuesdays, tests papers will be sent home stapled in the homework binder for you to review. Please sign and return all the papers in the binder the next day. I keep the tests in your child’s classroom file.
Behavior and Discipline Policy: Please see my behavior and discipline policy under my name on this website.
Lunch: Lunch is at 11:05. You are welcome to have lunch with your child in the cafeteria or outside on the picnic tables. I simply ask that you send me a note that confirms you will join your child for lunch. It is worrisome to everyone if a hungry child waits for a mom/dad that does not come.
PE/Recess/Snack: PE is on Monday. Recess is on the remaining days. Appropriate shoes are essential for a good physical education lesson. Your child should bring a water bottle with a secure top each day. Please bring only plain water to drink. If they would like to bring a snack, that is fine too.
I look forward to meeting you all on August 20 at 6:00 pm in the Blue Room for 3rd grade parent orientation. Please send me an email, so that I can add you to my address book. My email is [email protected].
God’s Blessings!
Lynn Wright
